Danger level 3, considerable avalanche danger, is described as follows in the interpretation guide of the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research.

The snowpack is only moderately to weakly bonded on many slopes.

The snowpack is only moderately to weakly bonded on many slopes. Especially on the steep slopes of the aspects and altitudes mentioned in the avalanche report, triggering is possible even with low additional loading. Alarm signs are typical, but not always present. Slab avalanches can occasionally also be triggered from a greater distance. (remote triggering)

The danger of spontaneous avalanches can vary: with a weak snowpack structure and low snow depth, medium-sized avalanches are to be expected only occasionally. If the level is forecast in new-snow situations or in connection with (daytime) warming, isolated large avalanches are also possible. Tours and descents outside secured areas require experience and judgement acquired through avalanche training. Steep slopes of the specified aspect and altitude should be avoided where possible.

About half of all fatal accidents occur at this danger level
